The Imperial Y-Wing was a stripped-down successor to the Republic’s armored BTL-B variant. In Imperial service, most of its heavy plating and secondary crew systems were removed to reduce cost and ease maintenance, resulting in a faster but more exposed starfighter. Used mainly for patrol and support roles, its reduced armor made it less durable, and it was eventually phased out in favor of more advanced Imperial designs.
