Video Review: Coming soon!
This Moc has been done from 0 after seeing the DUNE film for a second time and realising that I did some parts wrong in my first time. The first time I saw the ship I inmediatly felt in love with it and decided that I wanted to creat the firts minifig scale MOC fo the ship!
This version has updated wings, mortor parts and more stronger landing gear and door that should make the moc stand up by itself!
This Moc has been done using my previous ornithopter Moc and I have take some inspiration of the wing part from @zio_creations on instagram!
Ornithopters, also commonly referred to as ‘thopters, were the most common small transport vessels in the Imperium. These ships were capable of carrying 6 passengers, 9 if the back seats were removed.
‘Thopters were also very versatile. While they were capable of space travel over short distances, these small vessels were mostly operated in planetary atmospheres. Their uses varied from human transport between cities and continents, to light cargo transport across long distances.
‘Thopters were often used for military purposes and equipped with weaponry. Usually these weapons were lasguns, but they could also carry small missiles and repeating maula pistols. With the exception of the planet Arrakis, and for heavier cargo transportation, most ornithopters were equipped with shields.
NOTE: to help fix the weights of the wings when in landing note I will add a few suggestions to implement the strenght:
1: First of all you will only need to add to the built 8 32054 technic pins and 8 32062 axel pins. So what you will like to do is this. Put the technic large pins as conectors to the body inside the rotors part, then put the axel and then conect it everything with a 90 degree will the normal wings. (adding some photos on the bricksafe gallery)
2: You can use 8x 57909 technic bricks instead of 8x 48169 and then use 8×32174 in the wings, the same way Brick_vault does in his topter.
3: Credit to ocarter on the comments: “I encountered the same issue, as this MOC was rendered on computer only & not built with real bricks, when these instructions initially, dropped. The wings are heavy & their attach points lack the friction to keep the wings level, when you attempt to “sweep” them to the rear.
You’ll need to replace the (4) 48169s with either (4) 48171s (for vertical wing movement) or, (4) 48170s (for horizontal wing movement), or a combination of both. You’ll also need to replace (4) 32062s with (4) 27940s then “trim” the ends of the 27940s to be flush, w/the associated liftarms (32449). You can see what I’m talking about, in the “close-up” picture.
Since my build is displayed, standing on the landing gear, having the lower wings articulate downward, would have them resting on the floor. While part 47755 significantly restricts the horizontal limits of the upper wings. For my build, I actually used both 170s & 171s, to give the lower wings horizontal movement, keeping them clear of the floor, while providing the upper wings with vertical movement. This combination gives all 8 wings the greatest range-of-motion & the parts used, allow you to “click” the wings into an ideal position.
NOTE: The wings issue have been solved in the last (28-03-2022) pdf manual version, It uses 16 additional pieces (8x 57909 and 8x 93571).
