As an armored vehicle, the AT-OT differed from the other walkers in the AT-series of Kuat Drive Yards in that it was not designed for combat. Instead, it was used to reinforce armies behind friendly lines as a charge walker.
Although these eight-legged walkers were well protected and had four laser cannons for defense, their open parts made them extremely vulnerable to attack from above. The AT-OT walkers had enough seats for at least 34 clone troopers, but could carry more troops if needed, thanks to the open-bed design. The vehicle’s defenses included two front guns and two rear guns. The AT-OT was not used to attack, but was primarily used to bring a large number of clone troopers to the battlefield.
