The MIM-104 Patriot is a surface-to-air missile system used by the U.S. Army and allied nations, manufactured by Raytheon. Named after its radar system, the “Phased Array Tracking Radar to Intercept on Target” (PATRIOT), it replaced the Nike Hercules and MIM-23 Hawk systems. Initially designed for air defense, it now primarily serves as the Army’s anti-ballistic missile system and is expected to remain in use until at least 2040.
